Job Description

Senior Health Information Management Clerk

The Senior Health Information Management Clerk performs a range of clerical duties related to the support of operations of the physician practice including updating and organizing information on the unit; coordinating work within the unit and with other units and departments; reporting relevant information to the supervisor; and responding to inquiries and requests from patients, visitors and caregivers.

Reports to: Market Practice Manager FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent Preferred: Associate's degree

License

Minimum Work Experience

Previous clerical or health information management experience preferred.

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills required.

Essential Functions

  • Facilitates communications among caregivers, patients and visitors to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
  • Performs all clerical/computer functions to support patient care delivery
  • Coordinates daily patient flow activities
  • Stocks unit with office and medical supplies and prepares requisitions to maintain inventory levels.
  • Answers the telephone in a professional manner and directs calls or takes messages
  • Faxes and photocopies information as requested by staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
