Job Description

Systems Integration Engineer - Senior Telecommunications Team | Herndon, VA

Shape the future of aviation with Peraton. Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA's Business, National Airspace, and Technical Computing Services (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton delivers the mission-critical systems and services that keep millions of passengers and aircraft moving safely every day.

We're looking for forward-thinking professionals who thrive in complex, high-impact environments and want their work to matter. If you're passionate about innovation, collaboration, and shaping the future of air traffic management, this is your opportunity to make a real difference alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.

Role Overview:

In this role, you will focus on hands-on technical work that supports the integration of fiber and IP-based circuits. You will help execute the transition from older legacy copper (TDM) systems to modern fiber and IP networks across the National Airspace System (NAS), working closely with the key stakeholders including Systems Integration Engineer SME for guidance, technical direction, and collaboration.

What You'll Do:

  • Analyze System Architecture: Review and refine requirements documents, preliminary designs, and architecture drawings to identify necessary design updates.
  • Lead Modernization Initiatives: Deep knowledge and understanding of legacy copper and TDM transport systems is required to apply advanced engineering expertise and direct their transition to fiber based and IP enabled architectures across multi state environments. Command the end-to-end assessment, redesign, and integration of legacy infrastructures to ensure full IP readiness.
  • Manage Technical Integration: Lead technical integration efforts within FAA National Airspace System (NAS) environments with 5 years of hands-on experience in advanced network protocols, transport infrastructure, and cloud enabled platforms. Troubleshoot complex issues across fiber, IP, and hybrid legacy interfaces and validate end to end system performance to meet FAA reliability, redundancy, and mission critical availability standards.
  • Execute Technical Cutovers: Direct hands-on circuit turn up, cutover, and integration activities across fiber, IP, and legacy interfaces. Perform end to end testing and validation to ensure full operational readiness within FAA mission critical environments.
  • Communicate Design Updates: Lead the delivery of clear, actionable briefings to stakeholders and senior leadership on architecture changes, technical risks, and integration impacts. Drive rigorous and transparent technical reporting to ensure informed, timely, and high confidence decision making across FAA mission critical programs.
  • Manage Technical Risk: Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks, interdependencies, and operational bottlenecks to maintain NAS continuity, ensure deployment readiness, and uphold FAA standards for safety, reliability, and service availability.

At Peraton, you won't just support the mission, you'll help define it. Your expertise will directly contribute to the reliability, resilience, and future evolution of one of the world's most critical transportation systems.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field (4 additional years of relevant experience can be accepted in lieu of degree)
  • 8+ years in network engineering, systems administration, or infrastructure planning
  • 5+ years working with core networking protocols (BGP, TCP/IP, MPLS, IPv6), including configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting telecommunications and IT environments, including optical networking, SONET transport, metro ring architectures, and wired/wireless infrastructure, as well as mission-critical server hardware

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional, and large-scale programs; ability to apply project management methodologies to ensure delivery, compliance, and mission alignment
  • Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Ability to forecast network growth, optimize capacity, and align solutions with budget constraints
  • Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent
