Duties Description Conservation Security Worker for the Peekamoose Valley Riparian Corridor within the Sundown Wild Forest Preserve, commonly known as the Peekamoose Blue Hole. Responsibility to protect DEC facilities by patrolling on foot or in vehicles, enforcing site rules, and providing information to visitors. Ensure the safety of staff, visitors, and property. Greet visitors, provide information, and answer questions. Patrol assigned areas, enforce permitting, parking, and facility regulations. Encourage appropriate behavior; contact law enforcement when needed. Assist law enforcement at emergencies and incidents. Assist with search-and-rescue efforts if required. Keep supervisors informed; prepare required reports and maintain records. All tasks conducted safely; report incidents, injuries, or illnesses immediately. Wear the assigned uniform and maintain neat condition; work shoes required. Minimum Qualifications Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Completed one year course at ranger school or similar or Have one season of recreation facility experience involving public contact or law enforcement enforcement. One year working or interacting with the public in a recreational facility. One year environmental experience in a remote wilderness setting. Six months work experience in law enforcement, security services, employment, military service or similar public contact enforcement. Completed at least 15 college credit hours in criminal justice or similar coursework. Additional Comments Seasonal, hourly appointment with anticipated end date of 10/31/2026 (actual termination date determined by program needs). Work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed during the interview. Must have a valid driver’s license or ability to meet transportation needs. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirator, required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas, and adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime, overnight travel, weekends and holidays may be required. Available for emergency response and after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
