Forest Lawn is seeking an Interments Department Associate who will assist with interments, entombments, niche placements, memorial tablet installation, flower vases, lot markers, grounds maintenance, and client support. The role may be performed alone or with a team, working under general supervision. Responsibilities Perform initial preparation of interment spaces by locating them in office map books and measuring them to proper dimensions. Prepare interment locations for committal services using supervisor‑provided interment list reports. Activities include opening and closing space, assembling and lowering vaults, and sealing lawn crypts. Check interment locations for accuracy before completing tasks. Immediately inform supervisor of unsafe acts or conditions observed. Ensure all equipment is in safe operating order by inspecting prior to each use. Maintain work and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition. Perform wall‑crypt entombments and columbarium niche placements. Operate a wide variety of power and hand equipment, including shovels, rakes, brooms, scooters, generators, special utility vehicles, lowering devices, lifting devices, tractors, and tractor‑loader‑backhoes. Assist in installing tents for weather protection as instructed. Install flower vases, memorial tablets, and cut‑out letters. Make minor adjustments to equipment only with the supervisor’s prior approval. Repair sunken interment locations to maintain a level lawn appearance. Perform additional duties as needed or required. Meet with client families when complaints arise regarding memorial tablets and resolve issues promptly to ensure high customer satisfaction. Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies, tools and materials needed for interment activities, notifying supervisor when supplies are low. Requirements Valid California Driver License. Able to push and pull 100 pounds and perform a one‑handed lift of 100 pounds from the floor to waist level from either side. Preferred Qualifications 2‑3 years of interment or other cemetery experience. Prior experience operating equipment.
