Assistant Track and Field/ Cross Country Coach Position Title: Assistant Track and Field/ Cross Country Coach Campus: Cranford Department: Athletics Employment Type: Full-time, Part-time, Adjunct, Part Time Exempt or Non-Exempt, Non-Exempt Regular, Temporary, or Grant Regular General description: As Assistant Coach, you are responsible for reporting to the Director of Athletics and working in conjunction with the head coach. Recruiting and maintaining the appropriate number of student athletes. Fostering an environment that supports and encourages each student‑athlete to graduate in a timely fashion. Maintaining a competitive win/loss record of at least .500 in your division and qualifying the team for the Region XIX Tournament. Developing and maintaining the skill, discipline and integrity of the team during games and practice through effective coaching. Statistical reporting and public relations, including updating administration with every score and game highlight after each game, and keeping NJCAA Coaches’ Website pages up to date. Knowledge of and adherence to the athletic policies and protocol of UCNJ and the eligibility requirements and rules of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Attending the Athletic Orientation and Coaches Council meetings. Conducting yourself and the team in a manner that reflects a positive image for the team and UCNJ, both on and off campus. Driving the team to and from road games in a safe manner, following school van policy. Notifying appropriate contacts if lost or late for a game, reporting scores to the Director of Athletics, submitting timely expense reports. Maintaining an active e‑mail address. Following medical guidelines for injured athletes per ATC/Team physician. Being present at all games and practices. Reading, acknowledging, signing, and following the NJCAA Coaching Principles, Coaching Creed, and the NJCAA Coaching Excellence Contract. Encouraging athletes to attend select athletic events in support of other teams. Performing other functions as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Education Requirements Associate degree required. Experience Three (3) years of coaching experience preferred at the college level. Playing experience required. Competencies and Skills Required Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Physical Demands and Work Environment Position involves both indoor sedentary work and physical activity outside on the field in coaching and training situations with student athletes. Involves strenuous exercise of muscles used in stooping, bending, running, throwing, pitching, and batting. Work is performed indoors and/or outdoors in conditions including loud and constant noise, and exposure to natural atmospheric conditions such as sun, rain, wind and dust. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and/or drag approximately 50 pounds. Travel required. Salary $6,000 stipend for both Track & Field and CC.
